Dr Joerg Ruetschi

Dr Joerg Ruetschi, CTP, CFA, FRM

Founder and Managing Director

Joerg is a value creation leader for innovation and special situations at the intersection of technology and the enterprise ecosystem. He works as an executive, entrepreneur and activist investor across the corporate and M&A lifecycle. He is a thought leader and strategist on how foundational technologies shape the future of the financial-services industry and beyond. He has been specialising in enterprise software/software as a service and artificial intelligence (data and machine learning) and technology-enabled service platforms.

 

Joerg led a series of builds-ups and restructurings of financial institutions and technology firms first at Booz & Company (now Strategy& as part of the PwC network) from 2013 to 2019 before setting up his own platform Evolve Enterprise Solutions (EES) in 2019. EES initially focuses on transformative technologies in the financial ecosystem, and the build- and scale-up of specialised financial- and business-service platform. The core of its mission is to drive entrepreneurship and investmens in private markets. The firm follows an experienced-based value-creation approach that was published by Wiley in the book "Transforming Financial Institutions".

 

Prior to that, Joerg spent ten years as a derivative specialist and solution banker at StepStone Global (2003-2005) and Goldman Sachs International (2006-2013) with focus on alternative investments, asset liability management and asset restructuring. He was originally trained in investment management and quantitative analysis at Invesco (1996-1997) and received early experience in capital markets and risk management at UBS and Credit Suissse during his academic studies which led to his PhD in Finance in 2005. He holds the Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designations.

Joerg is a dual British and Swiss national, based in London.

Relevant experience:

  • Leads as President & Chief Transformation Officer the change and growth agenda to profitability for a business-software company that specialises in accounting and corporate services for small and mid-size enterprises (SME),

  • Leads as Operating Partner the build-up of a technology-enabled alternative-capital platform for SME through the integration of capital and embedded services in the UK and DACH region,

  • Led as President & Chief Operating Officer the scale-up of an open-source software firm with key focus on interoperability. It included the reorganisation for accelerated growth, the spin-off as a standalone company and subsequent merger and integration to an industry-leading player,

  • Continues to lead as Senior Advisor the commercial, operational, and financial strategy for artificial-intelligence start-up and growth companies during their scale-up, restructuring and exit; leveraging the long-term experience in the deployment of AI platforms for decision augmentation and process automation with core use cases in alternative investments, risk management and advanced analytics,

  • Led as Chief Operating Officer the restructuring for accelerated growth and subsequent exit of a data visualisation company,

  • Led as Chief Executive Officer the reorganisation and repositioning of an established AI technology firm by exiting its digital marketplace for alternative investments and establishing joint ventures for the remaining technologies in data and analytics,

  • Led as Chief Executive Officer the restructuring, recapitalisation and commercial repositioning of an AI technology firm for natural language processing and alternative data,

  • Led as Co-Founder and Operating Partner the development of an advanced analytics platform through the combination of Bayesian machine learning with alternative data,

  • Led as Lead Incubator, Founding Partner and Board Member the greenfield build-up of an ESG impact advisory platform enabled by AI,

  • Led a series of advisory mandates in financial technology (FinTech) with emphasis on augmented decision making (AI) and operational efficiency (enterprise software), assisting financial institutions and private equity firms in their principal investment and value-creation activities,

  • Led and advised on the build-up of several neo- and challenger-banking platforms in the UK and continental Europe,

  • Led the restructurings and transformation of the capital-market and corporate & investment-banking businesses of several global European banks and regional, systemic banks in Central and Southern Europe,

  • Advised asset managers and specialty/re-insurers on a variety of strategic and operational situations from greenfield build-up, M&A, risk and capital management to alternative-investment solutions,

  • Advised on insurance-linked solutions (ILS) with emphasis on the combination of alternative-investment strategies with reinsurance and the reengineering of life-insurance assets,

  • Devised and executed alternative-investment, asset-liability-management and asset-restructuring strategies across the capital structure and different asset classes (incl. commodities), and delivery mechanisms (derivatives, securities and funds).
